- The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage publishes 『2018 Journal of Korean Archaeology-

 The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of the Cultural Heritage Administration (Choi Jongdeok, Director General) has published Korean and English editions of the 2018 Journal of Korean Archaeology, a compilation of reports on major achievements of Korean archaeology in form of a Journal.

 For this issue of2018 Journal of Korean Archaeology, 32 scientifically significan excavation sites in- and outside Korea were selected by experts in archaeology and cultural heritage, out of all the sites investigated in 2018, which have received special attention from media and academia.

 The book contains various excavation achievements ranging from the Paleolithic Site in Sintanjin-dong, Daejeon to the Jepo Site in Jinhae of the Joseon Period, and the investigation results of the Starorechenskoe Balhae Fortress in Primorsky Krai, Russia. An expert interview is also included, comparing different views of archaeologists on the Donae-dong Paleolithic Site, which has received a great amount of attention of academia and public media at the time of its research.

 Furthermore, the chapter ‘Excavation Sites, VR Experience’ was included, which enables people to experience archaeological excavation sites, which are usually hard to access for the public. 360° VR images of the excavation sites are available for viewing by simply scanning the QR codes contained in this chapter, via smartphones.

VR Images of the following sites are available: Constructions Site of the Entry Road of Cheonan Dongbu Bio Industrial Complex, Ugeumsanseong Fortress, Buan (East Gate, Soute Gate), Tap-dong 6-1, 6-6 Site within the Construction Site of Detached Houses, Gyeongju, ▲ San 3-19, Yul-dong Site within the Construction Site of Detached Houses, ▲ Gyo-dong Site, Jecheon, ▲ Baekje Brick Chamber Tomb in Gyochon-ri, Gongju, ▲ Bongseon-ri Site, Seocheon, South Gate, Drain and Watchtower of Achasanseong Fortress, Gamil Public Housing District, Hanam, Kiln Site in Yucheon-ri, Buan (Historic Site No. 69), ▲ The Ancient Tombs around the Seongneung Royal Tomb (Historic Site No. 369), Ganghwa, ▲ Iron Productions Site in Chilgeum-dong, Chungju, ▲ Sorrounding Area of the Petroglyphs of Bangudae Terrace in Daegok-ri, Ulju (National Treasure No. 285), ▲ Site within the Restored Area of the Western Rampart, Earthen Fortress in Pungnap-dong, Seoul (Historic Site No.11), ▲ The Ancient Tombs in Daecha-ri, Muju, ▲ Cultural Site within the Construction Site of the Detached Houses in Dongcheon-dong 373, Gyeongju, ▲ The Ancient Tombs in Hyeon-dong, Changwon, ▲ The Ancient Tombs in Gyo-dong and Songhyeon-dong in Changnyeong.

 The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, as part of Government Innovation, is contributing to the promotion of recent achievements of Korean archaeology inside and outside of the country, and encouraement of academic exchanges by publishing the ?Journal of Korean Archaeology? every year since 2006 (in Korean and English).

 The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage will distribute the reports to national/public libraries and research institutions in- and outside of the country, and make them available online on the website of the NRICH, (www.nrich.go.kr, Cultural Heritage Research Knowledge Portal) for public access.

 The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of the Cultural Heritage Administration, as an executive agency, will continue to play a leading role in developing provision methods of research information that meet the demands of the times, and make efforts for experts home and abroad as well as the public to apprehend the achievements and values of our cultural heritage more easily and conveniently.
