“Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes” Becomes the First Select for the Online Event

UNESCO selects “Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes” as a site for its new online campaign “Share Our Heritage” (#ShareOurHeritage), a project to introduce online exhibitions on World Heritage and convey the lively voices of site managers amid the current widespread outbreak of Covid-19.

As the firstly selected site for the campaign, Jeju now appears on the campaign webpage from last Thursday. Filmed by Mr. Ki Jin-suk and Ms. Heo Jin at Jeju World Natural Heritage Center, the video clip uploaded on the page describes the current situation of Jeju Island amid the pandemic, in which indoor exhibitions are suspended and body temperatures are measured for visitors. The video introduces how the Jeju Center endeavors to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus at the site.

CHA will continue to cooperate with UNESCO onwards in the international organization’s efforts, which once again takes note of the social and humanistic role of cultural heritage in such a crisis and endeavors to heighten the public access to heritage.
