Special Events Marking the Centennial of the Korean Provisional Government

The Cultural Heritage Administration holds a variety of special events marking the 100th anniversary of the March First Independence Movement and the Korean Provisional Government. - Royal palaces and tombs offer free admission on March 1. Free entrance is available at the royal palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung), Joseon royal tombs, and Jongmyo Shrine. - A special ceremony commemorating the relocation of the Gwangmyeongmun Gate to its original site will be held at 1:30 pm on March 1 at the Deoksugung Palace. Served as the main gate of the Hamnyeongjeon Hall, this gate was transfered 80 years ago during the Japanese colonial rule and its original location was discovered in the course of the excavation in 2016. - The state funeral for Emperor Gojong will be revived at the Daehanmun Gate of Deoksugung Palace from March through May. Emperor Gojong's demise ignited the March First Independence Movement in 1919. - A special exhibition titled the Heritage Recalling the Day One Hundred Years Ago, is ongoing until April 21 at the exhibition hall of the Seodaemun Prison History Hall (www.sscmc.or.kr/foreign/eng/introduction.html).
