Traditional Korean Wrestling (Ssirum/Ssireum) of the two Koreas was inscribed onto the UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the 13th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage held on November 26 until December 1 in Port Louis, Mauritius. Traditional Korean Wrestling marks the first joint inscription on the UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list by the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. This unprecedent inscription came as a result of the discussion on the matter between President Moon Jae-in and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay on October 16. The Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea now has 20 and 3 items each listed on the UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. ☞ Click here to watch the video about Traditional Korean Wrestling!
