-Respective MOU with the Ministry of Culture · Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (April 18th/Tashkent)- During the President's visit to Central Asia, the Cultural Heritage Administration (Administrator Chung Jae-suk) has signed MOU for cultural heritage ODA on April 18th in Tashkent, Uzbekistan with the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan (Minister Bakhtiyor Sayfullayev) and the Academy of Sciences (President of the Academy Behzod Yuldashev) respectively. The CHA and the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan will pursue support programs for the Afrasiab Museum and Samarkand State United historical-architectural and art museum for three years starting this year to 2021 based on the signing of the MOU. In particular, the Afrasiab Museum exhibits palace wall painting of envoys from Goguryeo, so priority will be placed on enhancing exhibition and visitor experience and also on conservation measures. For the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, systematic support measures are planned to carry out an official excavation of Kuldortepa and to enhance excavation research for the Institute of Archaeology Research extending over the period of four years from next year to 2023. Uzbekistan was at the heart of the cultural exchange between the ancient Korean peninsula and Central Asia through the Silk Road. The remaining historical sites include the Afrasiab palace wall painting and Kuldortepa. . This MOU has its significance in supporting the government's New Northern Policy from the aspect of cultural heritage. Uzbekistan is the hub of the northern economic community in Central Asia, so it is the core region of the government's New Northern Policy. Also, it is meaningful in restoring the historical exchange between the two countries for 1,400 years and in the long run, laying the foundation to develop research of the ancient culture in the northern area and to establish the Silk Road network between Korea and Central Asia. The CHA will continue to reflect our historical relevance, state agenda, recipient requests and further develop ODA for cultural heritage.
