The CHA is currently implementing nighttime interpretation programs designed to offer a special heritage experience that incorporates local heritage sites with surrounding cultural content, and also to encourage the dissemination of visitor inflows throughoutdiverse areas of the country and vitalize local economies. The evening heritage interpretation programs scheduled for 2016, numbering about 180 in total, are presented under seven distinct themes according to the unique characteristics of the locality: evening heritage scenery, nighttime promenades, historic stories at night, appreciation of paintings at night, enjoyment of performances at night, nighttime food, and one night at an open heritage site. In the Jeongdong area of Seoul, visitors can enjoy a range of performances, exhibitions, and experiences while strolling through an area rich in modern historic buildings and monuments. In the countrys second largest city of Busan, an evening program is offered that shows diverse aspects of the city and their association with the Korean War. In Gangneung, Gangwon Province, a program highlights the aesthetic beauty of the blissful natural environment. Areas known for their town wallsCheongju in North Chungcheong Province and Suncheon in South Jeolla Provincefoster a civic image of tradition coexisting with modernity through night programs. Finally, the historic cities of Buyeo in South Chungcheong Province and Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province welcome visitors with evening programs presenting their many historical charms. In addition, other localities including Jeonju, Daegu, and Gunsan implement a colorful variety of nighttime programs that enable visitors to gain a unique experience of enjoying historic sites and traditions at night. The CHA will continue with its efforts toward developing diverse heritage interpretation programs with a view to invigorating local economies and culture, and enhancing values such as openness, sharing, and communication.
