Administrator Attends Opening of KCPA

Administrator You Hong June attends the opening ceremony of Korea Cultural Properties Investigation & Research Institute Association (KCPA) on March 14th, 2006. KCPA is an association of institutes that are dedicated to investigation and research of buried cultural properties.

Administrator You will celebrate the launch of the Association and reward those who contributed to its establishment for their service at the ceremony. Choi Byeong Heon, President of The Korean Archeological Society, Bae Gi Dong, President of The Korean Association of University Museums, representatives from excavation corporations and related officials will also attend the ceremony.

In his congratulatory address, while expressing expectation for KCPA, Administrator You will ask the Association and its member institutes to make every endeavor to resolve various issues concerning excavation research activities, which have become the focal point of public resentment. Those issues include support for researchers, establishment of investigation and research standards, research quality improvement and enhancement of public-concept in excavation research.

As for the operation of KCPA, independence will be allowed as much as possible, and the Cultural Properties Protection Act will be revised to allocate responsibilities and authorities to the Institute so as for it to play the real role of an association representing cultural properties organizations.

KCPA was registered as a corporation on December 8th in 2005 after series of discussions between excavation corporations, project operators, academic and other related experts who acknowledged the need for a council in order to enhance current investigation and research systems and facilitate the institutions in the field to serve public interest.
