What do owners do if they want to know about the value of their private cultural properties?

What do owners do if they want to know about the value of their private cultural properties?

  • The Cultural Heritage Administration does not appraise the value of private cultural heritage. Yet, when the prosecution or other investigative agencies ask for the appraisal of confiscated cultural properties involved in theft or illegal excavation, the Administration undertakes limited appraisals to assist their investigations.
  • In cases where an individual person applies for the designation of his/her properties as national or local cultural heritage, appraisals can be carried out to decide whether they deserve to be designated as official cultural properties.
  • However, those who just want to know about the value of their collections can pay the necessary fees and ask for appraisal services from the Korean Antiques Association (Tel. +82-2-732-2240) or Movable Cultural Heritage Development Agency (Tel. +82-2-730-5550).
