What is the honorary manager of cultural properties?

What is the honorary manager of cultural properties?

  • A citizen, who lives near a cultural property and expresses interest in it, is selected as an honorary manager of cultural properties and assigned a certain task for the nearby cultural property. Due to his/her efforts, the fields of cultural properties can be thoroughly managed.
  • An honorary manager of cultural properties is appointed by the governing head of Si/Gun/Gu. As the system is run by the voluntary participation of the neighbors, no money is paid to them in principle. Some local governments, however, give a small amount of money to be spent on, for example, transportation during volunteering activities.
  • Currently, some 5,700 honorary managers of cultural properties have been appointed and engaged in volunteering work. They are given an appointment letter, an ID card, and a pocketbook for honorary manager of cultural properties. They also are given prior distribution of publications of the CHA and the governing Si/Do/Gun/Gu over other people.
