Kim Gu’s Seal
백범 김구 인장 寬和, 金九之印, 白凡 ( 白凡 金九 印章 寬和, 金九之印, 白凡 )
This is a private seal of Kim Gu (1876-1949) which is one of three seals which are composed of Head Seal, Name Seal and Pen name Seal. On the black gem stone, a lotus leaf is engraved at its upper part and on its side are written Chinese characters meaning “Made by Seongjae, Byeongsul Middle Spring, Seongjae.” Through the Chinese characters, we can clearly understand that the seal was made by Kim Tae-seok (pen-name: Seongjae, 1875-1953), the most famous seal engraver in the modern era, in the middle of spring in 1946. This seal was used by Kim Gu when he wrote calligraphic works and on most of his departed autographs this seal was affixed since he came back home from China in November 1945 and this has the great material value.
