This is a calligraphic autograph of Kim Gu (1876-1949) which is one of the roll of paper lain on his desk when he was killed on June 26, 1949. The margin of this autograph is blood-stained and vividly verifies the situation and this has a great historical value as one of his relics. After Yun Bong-gil’s heroic deed in Shanghai in 1932, he began to write calligraphic autographs regularly and the number of his departed autographs amounts to more than 150 items. The meaning of this autograph, “Behave yourself even when you are by yourself (愼其獨)” shows the situation with which he was confronted and this calligraphy has a great symbolic value.
