Established in 1888
This building was Incheon branch of Japan Mail and Shipping Inc., which monopolized the shipping industry of Incheon after the port opening. It is extremely old for a modern architecture that remains in Korea, and it is rare to see such well-maintained original form in private structures other than religious facilities and public offices. Single truss was used to form the flat surface, which was very large for back then, and a wooden storage was installed above the ceiling to store valuables. It was used as the office of a shipping industry company until recently. The building shows us the history of Korea’s modern shipping and distribution industry.
