Nampyeong Station began its station as a way station for Gyeongjeon Line on December 25, 1930. It was then promoted to an ordinary station on May 3, 1948. Later, the station was destroyed by fire on February 7, 1950 due to the Yeosu Rebellion Incident and was reconstructed on July 7, 1956. The station exhibits painful history of communist occupation and battles during the Korean War and January-Fourth Retreat. It is still being used as a way station.
