Established in 1800s
The house was the birthplace of Oh Ji-ho (1905-1982), a prominent figure in Korea’s modern Western painting and pioneer of Korean-style impressionism. The house is ‘ㅡ‘-formed, which is typical of private houses in this region. Sarangchae (men's quarters) and anchae (women’s quarters) are both 7 kan (a unit of measurement referring to the distance between two columns) wide at the front, and they are positioned to the front and back. Half of the painting room is equipped with floor while the other half takes ondol (floor heating system) form. Oh spent his youth in this house, and resided and worked here for a while after returning from studying abroad in Japan.
