This handwritten manuscript of Gugeo munbeop (Korean Grammar) was written by renowned Korean language scholar Ju Si-gyeong and published by Bangmun Seogwan Publishing Company in 1910. The book established a comprehensive system of Korean grammar and provided the academic basis for the Standard Korean Orthography published in 1933. This manuscript was completed in July 1909, one year prior to its publication, and is bound by string on the right-hand side of the cover. The stamps inside the book prove that it was censored by the Japanese Department of Police and passed for publication, and there are some traces of corrections as well. The manuscript is highly valuable as it contains the first research on Korean grammar carried out by a Korean scholar, and is a compilation of studies on the Korean language conducted during the Korean Empire Period.
