The Hwasun Red Cliff is a series of small and large red vertical cliffs that stretch from Changnang-ri to Janghak-ri in Iseo-myeon, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do Province, along the upstream area of the Dongbokcheon Stream and Yeongsincheon Stream. The cliffs are a well-known scenic site characterized by beautiful pine trees on sheer cliffs, and the harmonious scenery formed by the forests of the adjacent Ongseongsan Mountain and the waterscape of Dongbokho Lake. In particular, Norumok Red Cliff, the most representative of the red cliffs, is famous for its magnificent scenery, while Changnang Red Cliff in Changnang-ri and Muryeom Red Cliff in Muryeom Village in Changnang-ri are also well-known around the country.
As the nearby Nujeongdae Pavilion houses various historical records including a plaque, a signboard, a message on the ridge beam, and a verse couplet carved on a plank (itself placed on a pillar), the Hwasun Red Cliff is considered an invaluable historical, cultural, and scenic heritage.
