Starting as Okbong Secondary Station of Munsan Catholic Church in Jinju in 1911, it played an important role in the history of Catholic Church in Jinju area. In the frontocentral sits the highly protruding bell tower, and the church building takes left-right symmetry around it. It was originally established as a linear flat building with bell tower and chapel. The current appearance with vestry is the result of many expansions that took place to accommodate increasing number of believers.
• The church started as Okbong Secondary Station of Munsan Catholic Church in Jinju in 1911, and it played an important role in the history of Catholicism in Jinju area.
• History
- In 1923, the building that becomes the foundations for current Okbong Catholic Church (assumed to be Japanese-style wooden structure) was constructed and finished on November 26, that year.
- On November 8, 1931, the bell tower was constructed on the main wooden building and consecration ceremony was performed.
- In 1932, Priest Kim Gye-ryong (Peter) was appointed and purchased 393 m2 wide lands near the church. Then he began construction of 165 m2 wide red brick building that remains until today.
- On September 1933, the church construction was completed.
- The church building was damaged during the Korean War. The damage was repaired in 1952. The building underwent 132 m2 expansion and major repair work.
- In November 1967, Priest Bak Jeong-il expanded the main building by 99 m2 and installed a doctrine hall in the basement. In addition, the interiors of the building were reformed to current state.
- Priest Jeong Deok-beom, appointed in January 1979, completed the roofing work on expanded church building.
