This church was established by Priest James Buckley of Missionary Society of St. Columban to commemorate Priest Anthony Collier, the provost of Soyang Catholic Church who was shot to death by the communists during the Korean War. It is the first church building in Korea that accepted modern design. The building used semicircle as its design foundation, which was rare in that time, and arranged congregation seats in fan-shape with the altar in the center. In the middle of the cylindrical surface were the gates and confessional, while the vestry and baby room were added in the left and right ends. Arch-formed windows and counterfort are traditional methods typically used in church construction, but simple form devoid of any decoration combined with bright and functional interior are results of modern architectural concepts. These features allow the evaluation of the church as a pioneering architecture that exceeds Middle Age church construction style.
