The shrine was built when King Gongmin appeared in the dream of Seogangnaru Ferry’s grain storage manager. On every October 1st of the lunar calendar, locals gather in the shrine to wish for prosperity and well-being of the village. At the beginning of the construction, the King Taejo of Joseon, who was not happy with the shrine of King Gongmin, enshrined a Buddhist child in the building and called it Sindang or Dang (Shrine). The name King Gongmin’s Shrine was restored only 200 years before. It was once relocated to 33, Changjeon-dong, Seoul, but eventually returned to this current location (year unknown). Original land was 165 m2 wide, but it was reduced to current size of 99 m2. The soil floor was replaced with cement around 1988.
