This bowl was made with a forging technique at the Joseon Royal Fine Art Works Production Authority. Plum blossoms, which were used in the royal family’s insignia of the Korean Empire, are inlaid onto the lid and body. The Chinese characters “萬壽無疆,” meaning “longevity”, are embossed on the lid, the handle of which is shaped like a lotus bud. It is thought the item was produced in the 1910s and used at royal banquets. The Authority was established in 1908 with a view to maintaining royal traditions and restoring the political power of the royal family.
