This candlestick has two candle holders attached to a body set up on a lotus-shaped bottom. Early modern elements include the height-adjustable body, the accessory shaped like a petal instead of traditional shapes such as a butterfly or a bat, and the lotus-shaped bottom. The production techniques and overall shape show signs of the transition from practicality to fine art. The item was used by Thomas Hobbs (1880-?), who worked as a missionary from 1910 to 1941, when he was expelled from Korea by the Japanese. The object was donated to Ewha Womans University by one of his descendants on 15 May 1989.
