The Hanging Painting of Hwaamsa Temple in Wanju depicts Vairocana Buddha, the principal Buddha at its center, flanked by two attendants, the Bodhisattvas Manjusri and Samantabhadra. This is a good example of a Buddhist painting that exhibits a modern coloring technique due to the introduction of the Western painting techniques, as well as a distinguished use of colors similar to that of watercolor painting, which was introduced to modern Buddhist painting in Korea between the end of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century.
It is regarded as a valuable Buddhist painting which combines traditional and modern painting elements.
