The Declaration of Korean Independence was announced by the thirty-three national representatives of the March 1st Movement in 1919. Its contents include the following four elements: introduction (background, purpose, and legitimacy of the declaration of independence); development (national damages caused by Japanese occupation, necessity of and belief in independence); turn (Korean people’s attitude and duty, an appeal for the awakening of Japan, and the meaning of independence); and conclusion (what we should do, and national resolution). The code of conduct consists of three pledges. This declaration is worthy of registration as a cultural heritage as it contributed to the growth of the nationwide independence movement.
