The Wooden Seated Amitabha Buddha Triad of Jeongsusa Temple is known to have been moved from Wibongsa Temple in Jeonju during the 1910s. However, the name of the temple in which the statues were originally enshrined is a subject of controversy because the only remaining record, a prayer written at the time of their production, reveals that they were made in Jeonju, Jeolla-do.
The record clearly states, though, that the statues were made in 1652 by a monk-sculptor named Muyeom and his six assistants. The triad is now generally regarded as Muyeom’s most successful work due to their artistic merit and large size.
