Involving Communities in World Heritage Conservation - Concepts and Actions in Asia International Conference in Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the World Heritage Convention "Involving Communities in World Heritage Conservation - Concepts and Actions in Asia", an international conference in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, will be held in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Korea for three days from September 10, 2012 (Monday) until September 12 (Wednesday). The Conference, which is organized by ICOMOS-Korea, will be hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration, UNESCO World Heritage Centre, and Chungcheongnam-do Province. World Heritage is the shared heritage of all humanity with outstanding universal value, but it also symbolizes regional identity and provides livelihood for local communities. This Conference will address and discuss various ways in which communities can participate actively for the effective conservation of World Heritage. Together with case studies from seven different sites in Asia (China, Japan, India, Philippines, Nepal, Laos, and Republic of Korea), thematic presentations from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) aims to identify practical policy approaches for community involvement. This conference will discuss efficient methodologies for drawing out interaction and communication between the local communities and aim to produce a practical guideline document to assist the process of involving communities in World Heritage properties.
