The Asian Cooperation Program on Conservation Science (ACPCS) of 2011 will start this month. The ACPCS is an international training program designed to share with Asian countries professional knowledge and research achievement in the field of conservation science and establish a regional network for collaboration and exchange on cultural heritage. The program is annually organized by the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH), and since its start in 2005, 40 researchers from 15 countries have completed the course. This year, 9 researchers will study and work together for three months (1st term: Apr 4-June 30, 2nd term: Aug 30-Oct 28), selecting a specific field of their own among intangible heritage, fine art, architecture and conservation and restoration areas for in-depth research and study in the field. Researchers from Laos and Tajikstan selected for this year's course are the first participants of their countries. The NRICH plans to hold a workshop next year to discuss the effects and future of this program with those who already completed the course. For more information on ACPCS, go to www.nrich.go.kr/acpcs
