International Conference and Inauguration Ceremony of ICHCAP, UNESCO Category 2 Centre

The inaugural ceremony for ICHCAP, or the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region, as well as an international conference commemorating the establishment of the UNESCO Category 2 Centre headquartered in Korea are to be held in Seoul on November 28. The international meeting and ceremony hosted by ICHCAP and sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration invite Irina Bokova, Secretary-General of UNESCO, the heads from UNESCO regional offices and national commissions along with other 300 local and international participants. The conference to be convened under the theme of “Regional Cooperation for Safeguarding the ICH in the Asia-Pacific Region” is participated by about 50 international experts from 24 countries. With presentations and discussions concerning regional cooperation for safeguarding the ICH, each of which represents five sub-regional groups in Asia and the Pacific, the Centre will seek to find its most appropriate roles and address pending issues by reinforcing regional cooperation. Following the international conference, the inaugural ceremony is to be held, where UNESCO Secretary-General will made her congratulatory remarks, expressing her expectations from the Centre. Since 2008 long before officially launched, ICHCAP has carried out a wide range of activities to safeguard the ICH, particularly focusing on information and networking in the region. Taking this opportunity, the Centre will set its further direction for future activities and seek cooperation from regional ICH stakeholders.
