Hosting the UNESCO Regional Meeting for Periodic Reporting

Co-hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, Gyeonggi Province and Suwon City, co-organized by UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Korean National Commission for UNESCO and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the UNESCO Regional Meeting for the Second Cycle of Periodic Reporting in the Asian region is held in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province from December 7-10. The regional meeting is a venue for reviewing the periodic reports of World Heritage in the Asian region that will be reported during the 36th World Heritage Committee to be held in Russia next year. The purpose of Periodic Reporting is to check the maintenance of Outstanding Universal Value in the concerned property. The report is an obligation regulated in the World Heritage Convention for strengthening the capacity of states parties in conservation and management of their World Heritage sites. The meeting is participated by World Heritage managers from 27 Asian member states, representatives from WHC advisory bodies including ICOMOS and international experts, whose number totaled almost 130. They will review the implementation of the Convention in each state party, examine the conservation status of 164 World Heritage sites located in the region, as well as discuss for the development of joint strategies for the future. Along with the major session, sub-regional group meetings will also be held, where the participants may share their concerns and find solutions to challenges they commonly face.
