 <2023 Fall K-Royal Culture Festival> in a palace filled with colorful autumn leaves

The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center(Head Shin Seong-Hee) at the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation (President Choi Young-chang) will host the <2023 Fall K-Royal Culture Festival> for six days from October 13th to October 18th at four palaces in Seoul (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung, Palaces)

The K-Royal Culture Festival is the largest cultural heritage festival in Korea, which has presented a variety of traditional culture contents across the backdrop of the spring and fall of the beautiful palace. <2023 Spring K-Royal Culture Festival> held last April was planned to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Changgyeonggung Palace's Returned Name, and was visited by approximately 383,000 visitors. In particular, it received good reviews for expanding programs in which citizens could directly participate.

<2023 Fall K-Royal Culture Festival>, which will be held starting on the 13th, is a planned program that is different from last spring's festival and is expected to present the unique charm of the palace on a fall day. Variety of programs are prepared on 4 Palaces in particular Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changgyeonggung Palace.

■ In Gyeongbokgung Palace : Special fall performances including Royal Palaces loved by Artists are presented.

During <2023 Fall K-Royal Culture Festival>, a unique performance that matches the autumn of the palace will be held at Gyeongbokgung Palace.

▲ At the Heungbokjeon Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace, a creative pansori performance called ‘Traditional Pansori storytelling performance (10.13.~14.)’, which tells the story of the restoration of Gyeongbokgung Palace, will be presented to visitors. This performance, featuring the pansori co-creation group ‘IPKOASON’, will be held four times over two days at 11 AM and 2 PM, each performance lasting 60 minutes. Advance reservation is available and some seats are available for on-site visitors.

▲ At JipokjaeHall of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the artist-invited performance ‘Royal Palaces loved by Artists(10.17.~18.)’, which introduces the beauty of the palace, will be held from 7 PM to 8:10 PM. On the first day of the performance, Second Moon (fusion band), Kim Jun-su (sori singer), Ha Yoonju (Jeongga vocalist), and Mu Bin Kim (traditional Korean musician), and on the second day, pianist Yang Bang Ean and an orchestral band will present a special performance on the stage at JipokjaeHall on an autumn night. The number of spectators per session is 600, and participation is possible through advance reservation and on-site registration.

▲ At The Sujeongjeon Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the ‘Gungjung Pungnyu (10.13.~14.)’ where you can see the unique performances of new artists, will be held from 3 PM to 3:50 PM. The performance can be viewed on-site without additional reservation.

■ In ChanggyeonggungPalace :Literature concertand the 40th Anniversary of Changgyeonggung Palace name reclamation photo exhibition

Changgyeonggung Palace will present a variety of programs to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Changgyeonggung Palace’s Returned Name, following the Royal Culture Festival last spring.

▲ At Hwangyeongjeon Hall of Changgyeonggung Palace, the 40th Anniversary of Changgyeonggung Palace name reclamation photo exhibition《Rediscover the Royal Palaces》(10.13.~18.),’commemorating the 40th anniversary of Changgyeonggung Palace’s Returned Name, is permanently operated from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In the photo exhibition, which consists of 40 photos about the history of Changgyeonggung Palace, you can see the changes of Changgyeonggung Palace in four parts, from the Joseon Dynasty to the Japanese colonial period to the present.

▲ At Tongmyeongjeon Hall of Changgyeonggung Palace, the Literature concert (10.16.~17.)’ will be held at 16:00. On the 16th, a korean historic lecture by Choi Tae-seong, a lecturer on Korean history, will be held under the theme of ‘Palace Journal, That Day’ on the lifestyle of the palace, including King Yeongjo’s 50th Birthday Ceremony. And on the 17th, under the theme of ‘The history of the regained name, the meaning of Changgyeonggung Palace’s Returned Name’ a lecture by historical storyteller Sun Kim will be held. The number of spectators per session is 300, and participants can participate through advance reservation or on-site registration.

In addition,‘Royal court games play room’, a small-scale experience and event with Goong-ee Doong-ee volunteers, is operated permanently from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at JipgyeongdangHall of Gyeongbokgung Palace and Gyeongchunjeon Hall of Changgyeonggung Palace.

■ Online <2023 Fall K-Royal Culture Festival>, ‘Genre Painting for All’ returns with a new character in 2023.

From September 27 to October 31, you can participate in ‘Genre Painting for All’, a web-based participatory program where you can create your own Joseon Dynasty character through the ‘Genre Painting for All’ website (pungsokdo.com). ‘Genre Painting for All’, an online event for the K-Royal Culture Festival that started in 2021 has gained explosive popularity, attracting approximately 460,000 participants over the past two years.

In addition, this <2023 Fall K-Royal Culture Festival>released in collaboration with KBS Radio on October 4th. This audio guide, featuring the voices of Korean history instructor Choi Tae-seong and ((G)I-DLE) Mi-yeon, can be enjoyed for free on the KBS radio application KONG, and you can watch the section ofHyangwonjeongPavilion of Gyeongbokgung Palace as a video on YouTube Gungneung TV (youtube.com/@K-royalculture).
