Jongmyo Royal Ancestral Ritual to be held on May 4

Jongmyo Daeje, the royal ancestral ritual, is held in Jongmyo, the royal shrine of the Joseon Dynasty where the tablets of former kings and queens are enshrined. The royal shrine is on the UNESCO World Heritage List from 1995, and the ritual and its accompanying music has also been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2002. The ritual is held every first Sunday of May each year. The ritual date, May 4, is open to the public for viewing the rite. No entrance fee is charged and prior reservation is not required. Guided-tour is not provided. # Details - Date: May 4 (Sun) * Rite at the Yeongnyeongjeon Hall: 13:00-15:00 (open for all day) * Rite at the Main Hall (Jeongjeon): 16:30-18:30 (open from one hour before the rite) - Venue: Jongmyo Shrine - Host: Cultural Heritage Administration, Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation - For inquiry: 02 2270 1234 (Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation) ** The royal carriage procession is not held this year.
