The Orders of Cultural Merit were awarded to three individuals this year. Kim Hee-jin, the knot master (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 22) received the Eun-gwan Order of Cultural Merit, the nation’s second-highest honor for contributions to culture, for her service in conservation and dissemination of traditional Korean knots. The Bo-gwan Order of Cultural Merit went to Professor Choi Seung-hee of Seoul National University, who paved the way in the field of palaeography. The quiver master, Kim Dong-hak, received the Og-gwan Order of Cultural Merit for his contribution to the distribution of traditional craftsmanship. The Korean Cultural Heritage Awards were granted to three individuals and two organizations: Yi Eui-sang, the stone master (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 120) and ICOMOS Korea (Conservation & Management part); Kim Li-na, an honorary professor at Hongik University and Yi Eun-bok, a professor at Hanseo University (Study & Research part); and Daedong Culture Foundation (Voluntary activities and Promotion part).
