The Cultural Heritage Administration will invite children living in mountain villages and islands, who are relatively limited to access cultural events in royal palaces, to provide an opportunity for experiencing royal culture in palaces. The children invited are to be allowed to spend a night in a royal palace. During the event scheduled to be held this month, 21 children from Cheongyang County of Chungcheong Province and 23 children from Yeoncheon County of Gyeonggi Province will be invited to the Changdeukgung Palace from 15th to 16th and 29th to 30th respectively. This is the first time that one is allowed to stay a night at a royal palace. Children will lodge at Nakseonjae in Changdeukgung Palace for their first night in the palace and visit Gyeongbokgung Palace, National Palace Museum of Korea and the Exhibition Hall for Royal Tombs of Joseon Dynasty in Taereung. During the event, they can experience the life of royal family under the theme of “experiencing life of the crown prince” that includes his foods, clothing and shelter as well as etiquettes in everyday life. Through the event, children are expected to better understand the royal life in palaces and to increase their interest in our cultural heritage. The event of this year is sponsored by Lotte Tour and Korea Craft & Design Foundation, and the CHA will try more public agencies and companies support future events by promoting them as a way of contributing to society.
