Memory of the World

Korean heritage items may be inscribed on the UNESCO list or register under a different name from the one being used in the national designation system.
UNESCO International Council

The UNESCO International Council is composed of 30 experts specializing in the fields of history, law, education, literature, and document preservation.
UNESCO PGI takes charge of projects associated with the Memory of the World while the International Council makes overall decisions.

Establishment of Memoty of the World

UNESCO established the Memory of the World programme in 1992.
Qualifications for the registration in the Memory of the World were fixed in 1995.
91 documentary heritages from 45 countries were registered in the Memory of the World in 2005.
