The Former Daehwa Corporate Office in Incheon is an office building used by a Japanese sea freight shipping company operated in Incheon Port during the period of the Japanese colonial rule over Korea (1910-1945) following its opening to the outside world in 1876. The building carries the style of the Japanese “town house” used for both dwelling and commercial activities, called machiya. The building is known as the only example of the machiya buildings remaining in the Japanese concession in Incheon and is widely regarded as a valuable source of information about the history of modern architecture and life of the port workers during the colonial period.
