This copy of the Gospel of St. Luke of the New Testament is the Korean version of the New Testament translated by Scottish missionaries John Ross and John Macintyre, with the assistance of a number of Koreans including Yi Eung-chan, Baek Hong-jun, Kim Jin-gi, and Seo Sang-ryun. It was published by Mungwangseowon in Senyang, China in March 1882.
The Ross Version of the Bible had a profound impact on the establishment of Korean churches and Korean culture. Ten editions of the single-volume of the Ross Version Bible were published, among which The Gospel of St. Luke of the New Testament was the earliest (March 24, 1882). This publication is considered an invaluable material as it was both the first Korean Bible and the catalyst for further translations of the Bible into Korean.
