The comic book Kojubu samgukji, produced by Kim Yong-hwan, Korea’s representative children’s cartoonist in the modern period, is considered a landmark comic book that marked a turning point in Korea’s early cartoon history. It introduced such innovative elements as division of the space in the page and the use of speech bubbles, clearly distinguishing it from ‘the picture storybook.’ Kojubu samgukji has greatly influenced the creation of Korea’s modern cartoons in terms of their composition and formation.
