Vairocana Buddha is said to lead the world of truth, and this stone statue with pedestal and mandorla was produced in the late Silla Period. There is a large usnisa on the curled hair, and the face is round and well-made up. The ears are short, but three lines on the neck give a solemn impression. The robe draped over the decent body and both shoulders hang down softly and look stable due to the high knees. It displays the typical hand gesture of Vairocana Buddha, i.e., the right hand covers the left forefinger. The mandorla expresses the brilliance from the body and the head, and the lotus design and the frame design are carved on the head mandorla and the body mandorla, respectively. The octagonal pedestal consists of three parts, which are carved with lion and cloud designs. The drum shape on the middle part of the pedestal and the lotus design carved on the top and bottom of the pedestal seem to have succeeded to the carving style of the Stone Seated Vairocana Buddha at Biroam Hermitage of Donghwasa Temple, Daegu (Treasure No. 244).
