Songgwangsa Temple is regarded as one of the most influential temples of the country. Following the restoration work carried out under the supervision of Monk Jinul, the temple became a leading temple and produced the sixteen most revered Buddhist monks of the Goryeo and Joseon Dynasties. The temple keeps three National Treasures, including Guksajeon Hall of Songgwangsa Temple (National Treasure No. 56), in which the portraits of the revered priests are kept, twelve Treasures, and a hermitage at which the sariras of the revered monks are kept.
