Following the foundation of the Marine Corps on April 15, 1949, the First Generation Church of the Marine Corps HQ was established in 1951. The church was renamed several times, including Jangmak Church and Quonset Church, and was finally built as a permanent structure at its current location in 1959. The church lost its function when the Headquarters Marine Corps was disbanded in 1973, and was subsequently used for various other purposes such as a warehouse. Three decades later, in 2003, the damaged building was repaired and restored as a chapel during the celebrations for the 54th anniversary of the Marine Corps, and it was given its current name of the ‘First Generation Church of the Marine Corps HQ’ in 2005.
