These three brocaded Arirang dresses were worn by the winner of the 3rd Miss Korea Contest, Oh Hyeon-ju, who was also the first Korean to participate in a world beauty contest when she took part in the 8th Miss Universe Beauty Pageant in 1959. Korea’s first fashion designer Nora Noh designed them by transforming a chima (skirt) and a jeogori (jacket) of hanbok (traditional Korean clothe) into a western style of dress, inspiring a new style of hanbok designs in the country.
