Under the rule of communists, the villagers of Cheorwon and Gimhwa were fully mobilized under the good name of "Labor Underground Activists" to build the bridge since August 1948 through the outbreak of the Korean War. Only the northern part of the bridge was built by the communists, and the bridge was completed by the South Korea government in 1958.
The northern and southern portions of the bridge are differently constructed to the point that the discrepancy is externally visible. It was built in a peculiar situation of the war and is considered to have a beautiful shape as well as a historical meaning.
