Grand Cordon of the Taegeuk was granted to Horace Newton Allen (1858–1932), a US doctor and diplomat who served in Korea during the early Korean Empire period, in 1904.
It is valuable as a rare example of the award of the country’s first merit degree to a foreign national, Allen, who was respected for his contribution to Korea.
