The Mural Painting in Daeungjeon Hall of Gwallyongsa Temple in Changnyeong depicts Avalokitesvara delivering a sermon on Mount Potalaka, with Sudhana beside him, seeking the way to the ultimate truth. Despite having undergone several major repair works, the painting still displays the characteristic features of Korean Buddhist icons of the eighteenth century, including the bejeweled crown with extended wings, beaded adornments, bamboo and grotesquely-shaped rocks painted with pale colors, a ritual ewer containing a willow spray, and Avalokitesvara’s neatly depicted relaxed posture.
