‘2022 Maritime Cultural Heritage ICOMOS Forum’

 

- Discussion on trends in research and protection management on maritime cultural heritage / 15:30 (KST) 24 November 2022, UNESCOHouse, Seoul-


National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (General Director Kim Seong-Bae) and Korean National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (President Song Inho) host the ‘2022 Maritime Cultural Heritage ICOMOS Forum’ at the UNESCO house(Jung-gu, Seoul) at 3:30 pm on November 24.


This forum, held under the theme of ‘Trends in Research and Protection Management of Maritime Cultural Heritage,’ is prepared as part of a business agreement signed by the two organizations in April last year to strengthen cooperation in academic research on underwater cultural heritage.


The debate consists of three topic presentations and a comprehensive discussion. 2001 Convention for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage (Lim Kyung-Hee, National Palace Museum of Korea), A case study of underwater cultural heritage - Study of Jars production site excavated from sunken ships (Shin Jong-Kuk, National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage), Conservation Science of Underwater Cultural Heritage-Focusing on domestic cases (Choi Jae-Wan, National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage) theme presentation is scheduled.


After the presentation of the topic, Choi Young-Ho (Research Institute of Korean Studies, Korea University), Kim Seung-Shin (National Maritime Museum of Korea), and Jung Young-Hwa (National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage) is expected to conduct a comprehensive discussion with the presenters as moderator by Choi Sung-Rak, emeritus professor at Mokpo University.


The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage of the Cultural Heritage Administration plans to work with the Korean National Committee of the ICOMOS to establish an international expert cooperation network through continuous academic research cooperation in the field of maritime cultural heritage.
