 National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage Publishes The Sixth Issue of “NRICH” An English Magazine for Korean


 -Featuring its best research projects, the latest achievements in various fields along with K-Culture stories-


- Along with the K-Heritage cultural section, the NRICH contains the best research achievements of 2022 to the latest research achievements of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage


The English newsletter "NRICH" is designed to introduce the latest research achievements and projects of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and to promote the institution worldwide. To serve its purpose, it has been distributed to major diplomatic organizations such as foreign embassies and cultural centers, national museums and research institutes, and universities with active Korean studies since its first publication in 2020. In particular, a Korean version of the NRICH with the same content will also be distributed for foreigners studying Korean as the interest and demand in learning Korean language are high overseas.

The Volume 6 features the following: 1) Five projects which was awarded with the ‘Best Research Project Award’ from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage; 2) Importance of the international cooperation in conservation science through an interview with Dr. Jiyoung Shin, who was elected as a board member at the 33rd ICCROM General Assembly; and 3) The excellence of hanji , a Korean traditional paper, recognized by the Vatican, Italy through an interview with the Hanji Research Team of the Restoration Technology Research Center. In addition, actual sample of hanji was inserted into the magazine so that readers could feel it firsthand.

Furthermore, it introduces the latest research trends in the fields of archaeology, architecture, art, conservation science, natural heritage, and digital archives, which are the main research fields of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage along with the latest news on various events and new publications.

Readers can also enjoy the ‘K-culture’ article which introduces Gwanghanruwon, a scenic garden which recently became a popular location for historical K-dramas as well as the article on the historical significance of the Cheonmachong excavation, which celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The newly released NRICH volume 6, in both English and Korean, is also available as an e-book (pdf) at the NRICH main website (https://nrich.go.kr) and NRICH Webzine (e.nrich.go.kr).

The National Research Institute for Cultural Heritage will put its utmost effort in actively promoting the English newsletter of Korean cultural heritage to overseas, so that it could become the pathway in spreading the research values and significant achievements in the field of national heritages and its conservation in various ways.
