National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (Ji Byongmok, Director General) under Cultural Heritage Administration(CHA) will hold the “2020 Asian Archeology” academic symposium at Daejeon Convention Center on the 24th at10:00 am.

Since 2000, the National Institute of Cultural Heritage has been conducting joint excavations with prominent archaeological research institutes in Russia, Mongolia, and Central Asia to restore the historic and cultural network. In addition, it operates a consultative body with national and public institutions, universities, and corporations in Korea that are conducting research on overseas sites, and as one of its activities, the “Asian Archeology” international academic symposium is held every year to share the research findings of each institution.

This year's symposium will showcase the results of research on stone-piled tombs in Eurasia so far, as well as the results of excavations conducted in 9 sites in 6 countries during 2019, including the Balhae Fortress in Primorsky Krai, Russia, the ruins of Xiongnu City in Mongolia, and jar coffins in Vietnam.

In session 1, in the theme of ‘Research Achievements of Eurasian Stone-piled Tombs’, there will be three presentations including ‘A Research on Scythian Royal Tombs in Central Eurasia ? Focusing on Attentive Excavation Result From Arzhan Kurgan in Tuva Republic’. In session 2, there will be nine presentations on the latest excavation outcomes in overseas sites including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Primorsky Krai, Russia. The presentations will include topics such as ‘Investigation Dizahli kurgan, Gabala, Azerbaijan’ and ‘Archaeological Discoveries of Starorechenskoe Balhae Fortress, Primorsky Krai, Russia (2018-2019).
The symposium will be streamed live on the NRICH YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/nrichpr) from 10 am on November 24th for the public to join, and the symposium proceedings can be downloaded from the NRICH website.

NRICH of CHA expects that this academic symposium, which is held from the perspective of active administration, will be a meaningful place to simultaneously examine the cultural exchanges in ancient Eurasia. We will also continue to strive to expand the scope of research on the history of world civilization exchange through close exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign archaeological research institutes.
