Guidelines for Interpretation-Signage Boards at Cultural Heritage Sites The Cultural Heritage Administration unveiled the Guidelines for Interpretation-Signage Boards at Cultural Heritage Sites. The guidelines will be distributed to local governments and cultural institutions for their consultations when making or repairing interpretation boards. The guidelines were compiled based on the experience and knowledge accumulated since 2006 when the administration undertook to upgrade the interpretation-signage system for cultural heritage sites starting from Joseon palaces in Seoul. The booklet contains recommendatory and compulsory guidelines for every step in setting up interpretation boards, from writing the text to selecting board design, material, and color. Readability, understandability, easy access, and environmental friendliness are suggested as main values for interpretation boards. The guidelines are expected to serve as the much-needed guidance for making interpretation boards and to enhance public understanding of cultural heritage.
