A three-day UNESCO conference was held in Seoul, from 26 to 28 November, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in case of Illicit Appropriation. The event consisted of an expert meeting followed by the extraordinary session of the Committee. Prominent experts and national delegations from more than 40 countries put their heads together to look back on the past three decades and figure out a strategy for the future. The event was not just about talks and discussions: the Conclusions of the Expert Meeting and the Recommendations of the extraordinary session were adopted at the end of the expert meeting and the Committee’s extraordinary session respectively. The next event in the Committee’s calendar is the 15th ordinary session to be held May 2009.
