The Cultural Heritage Administration is launching a quick response code service on all state- and province-designated cultural properties from July 1. For each designated property, CHA has provided a specified code that contains a variety of information about the property including its description, photos and video clips in the form of text, sound and image. The local governments in charge of managing the local and national monuments will fix the black and white box on the plaques for visitors at each site. The contents are also provided in sign and foreign language including English, Chinese and Japanese for those visually-impaired and non-Koreans. The number of properties a specific code was given to is 13,540 in total. Before launching the project, pilot operation has been carried out in royal palaces and tombs since May. CHA has developed a series of mobile contents since last year to enhance accessibility of the national properties among the public. For this, it has updated the text describing the properties as well as supplementing extra visual material from February in cooperation with local governments.
