The Cultural Heritage Administration has announced the result of UNESCO World Heritage Youth Storyboard Competition, which the agency co-held with World Heritage Centre at the national level early this year. It was a part of celebrating events for the 40th Anniversary of World Heritage Convention in 2012. Of the total 78 works submitted, CHA selected ten final entries in April and among those ten, WHC examined and selected top three winners. Specialists in education and culture at UNESCO and animated film producers served on the jury. The first-prize winner is Jeon Dayoung (Hamyang Girls’ Middle School) who developed a story about Seokguram Grotto. In her storyboards, she suggested how young Koreans could play their role in conserving the property. The second and third prize went to Baek Seunghun and Lee Jihyun (Hanyoung Foreign Language High School) and Choi Ran and Bong Jihyeon (Jeonnam Foreign Language High School). Each of the teams took Jongmyo Shrine and Historic Villages of Korea: Hahoe and Yangdong as their subject of the story. The top winner’s storyboards will be produced as an animated film, and it will be shown during the 40th anniversary closing event in Japan in November. Those top three will be posted on the WHC website sooner or later. WHC awards the certificate and medal to the three winners, and for all ten finalists, only the certificate is presented.
